There’s one fact that you simply can’t overlook when you’re involved in farming one way or another: Mother Nature is the boss, and we (as humans) are just one very small piece of the pie. We’ve been reminded of that this week when the ducks decided that NOW is the time for them to have their summer molt. Molting allows the ducks to shed old feathers and regenerate themselves with a fresh new supply of healthy feathers.

I had a moment at dinner last night that made me quite emotional. Sitting down to eat one of our chickens that my husband roasted while I was busy finishing up my workday - sure, he accidentally roasted it upside down, and he may have burned the garlic on top - but it was one of the most flavorful and nourishing meals ever. I had to sit in gratitude for a moment: Gratitude for the privilege of having access to food that is so fresh, nourishing. Gratitude that food literally has the healing power to change lives. I've seen this in my very own family.

If you've been scouring farmer's markets this summer, you know how incredibly difficult it is to find peaches that you know are 100% Colorado-grown and truly Organic. Buying local matters for more reasons than one. There's the obvious benefit of supporting our local farmers and economy, but one of the most important reasons in my mind is "NUTRITIONAL-DENSITY" (a term you will start to hear more and more of).
